Issued in Canada October 1972 on A&M 330.Keith Hampshire was born in London, England. His family emigrated to Canada when he was a toddler, settling in Calgary. While growing up, Keith took vocal lessons, sang in a church choir and soaked up music on the radio. At age seventeen, he was performing in coffee houses. He put together various bands, and played around Calgary, appearing on TV and opening for Roy Orbison at the Stampede Corral. After high school, Keith was hired at CFCN radio and TV, and wound up with an airshift on weekends after midnight. He and a friend went to England in 1966, where Keith was hired as a DJ by pirate station Radio Caroline. He became a major star there, until the day before the British government took measures to shut down the station in mid-August 1967. Keith then returned to Toronto, where he turned down an offer from CHUM to work at CKFH. After a couple of years, he began work in television.Bill Misener, ex-Paupers, (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... ) was a staff producer at RCA in Toronto. He worked with Keith on one single in 1970 that flopped. RCA passed on further records, but Keith and Bill worked out a new arrangement of "Daytime Night-Time," written by Mike Hugg of Manfred Mann. They placed it with A&M Canada, and had a hit out of the box. It entered the RPM 100 on October 28, 1972, and rose to spend three weeks at #5 in January 1973. It remained on the charts until the end of February. To hear this record in stereo, type the following code - &fmt=18 - on the end of the URL and hit Enter to reload the page. |
