Yeah, but. Both my grandparents were opera singers -- small-time performers at the turn of the 20th Century and I inherited a very little bit of musical talent, but not enough ever to do anything with it. So, I'd sing along with Joan and wish. A real Opera wannabe.

You should never have felt badly.....few could ever sing this music at the such a high level. I'm glad I wasn't a soprano singing in the 60's....there were too many great sopranos dominating the stage in those days.

When I was much younger I used to listen to Sutherland sing Traviata and tried so hard to follow her up the scale. I remember the tears pouring down my face, because of the beauty of her performance and my because of my own inablility to sing it too.

Ah...La Traviata, my first opera. Thank you so much for uploading this, i've finally ordered this recording and i can't wait! Sutherland's lyricism makes Sempre Libera sound so easy when in fact its incredibly hard! Pavarotti is ace too.

I still prefer this one..plus it has della jones as flora (luv her :))

I still stand by the fact that this is THE best sutherland recording out there..along with the art of the prima donna

Sigo prefiriendo la versión de 1963 (Pritchard; Sutherland, Bergonzi, Merril), siempre será mejor escucharla con la frescura de los 60's; Mi humilde opinión.... :)

I own this recording. I know Dame Joan was 53 at the time of the recording. One music critic/reviewer accused Joan of dubbing in the Eb at the end of Sempre libera. He said it was better than some of her earlier versions.....and therefore suspect.

Yes this recording as a whole is MUCH better than her recording with Prichard...plus it has Della Jones as Flora (always a plus!)

In this recording, I like the fact that for the first D-flat, she didn't prepare for it. She just released it! |
