This is the "real" torpedo for the 2010 National underwater Robotics Challenge. Motor is from the little Attwood bilge pump they sell at walmart, it is now powered by 8 AAA alkaline batteries, with a 2" diameter brass propeller. Housing is 1/16" polycarbonate tube, 1.5" OD. Custom machined polyethylene end housing for motor, using original bilge pump seal. The other end of the tube is plugged with a plain disc with O ring seal. The motor is controlled by a push on/push off switch, which is fastened to the batteries so that it acts as an inertia switch--banging the front of the torpedo into the wall turns it on or off. The torpedo spins quite a bit as reaction to the propeller, but it seems to travel straight, and does turn off when it hits the opposite side of the pool. http://selectric.org/nurc10
