Tiam Ntawv Phem (Ahista Ahista) (1981)Starring: Padmini Kolhapure (Chandra) & Kunal Kapoor (Kunal)** NOTE: I did not sub this movie, it came with subs already ****** Did I mention I love the look Chandra gave Kunal, and his inability to look at her during 5:03-5:23? ^_^ Gosh, he's gotta know it's his fault. **** Hmmm... I don't like many hindu movies, but this one is one of my favorites. Makes me cry every time after their relationship breaks down. Surprisingly I like the additional hmong songs thrown into it too. Okay, okay, if you read my book-long summary (*LOL, I just really like this movie ^_^*) below, I had some issues with the hero's stupidity~ but I still love the movie and Chandra & Kunal together during happier times. ^_^Summary: Sangeeta gives birth to Chandra at the household of Madame Subbalaxmi. Chandra's father has left but plans to return for them someday. Her mother refuses at first and is never happy about it, but with intense persuasion, Subbalaxmi gradually forces Sangeeta into prostitution. Subbalaxmi hopes one day Chandra will join them. As a young child, the three of them eventually move away to a new city. Chandra becomes good friends with her new neighbor Kunal. Childhood friendship later blossoms into deep love as they grow up. Chandra works hard at university, deters all the insults and leers about her family and the lack of a father. She loves only Kunal, despite everyone's fears she will follow in her family's footsteps. Kunal loves her too~ his father likes Chandra, but his mother hates her for possibly bringing shame down upon them. One night, a visitor comes to see Kunal's father and hears familiar music coming from the neighbor's house. Later that night, he secretly knocks on the door and lo and behold~ he's Chandra's father!!! Her father gives her a diamond ring as a memento and she's so excited about meeting her father that she hugs him. Across the street, Kunal sees her hugging a man through his window and thinks that she is cheating on him. (*DARN THE STUPID MAN!!! You should have gone to sleep already anyways!!! Why'd you have to get up at THAT moment??!! GRRRR!!! ^_^*)She is overjoyed that she has a father, and plans to tell everyone. But shockingly, her mother pleads her not to tell anyone about her father. Although he loves them, he holds a high status in society and doesn't want anyone to know about their relationship. He has also gotten married and has other children now. Amidst the tears, she promises her mother that she will not tell ANYONE.Kunal questions her about her late night visitor and her new diamond ring. She tells him she promised her Mother and she can't tell. In a fit, he insults her and breaks up with her (*such a heartbreaking scene...COME BACK on your darn motorcycle and pick her up, SHEESH. ^_^*)She cries and cries and when her mother finds outs, she allows Chandra to tell Kunal about her father... she runs over to his house to tell him the good news, only to find it locked. Kunal and his family are gone.It isn't until later when her father comes to see her at school that she finds out where Kunal and his family went. Without knowing that Chandra and Kunal were dating, her father tells her that Kunal's parents have arranged for marriage between him and Chandra's half sister, Sudha!!!! (Darns it!!! I bet that was all Kunal's mom's handiwork!!) Chandra's world breaks down...* I understand how Kunal could have misunderstood the situation... BUT did he have to jump into marriage the NEXT second? So much for love. ^_^ *Her father invites her to the wedding, but asks she not reveal their relationship. She declines to go. After she meets Kunal and his new wife (who everyone keeps saying looks "exactly like her"~ * I didn't think so!!!!*), she makes a final decision: she tells Subbalaxmi that she is now ready to join the prostitution business. Her mother tries to stop her. But Chandra says she has nothing left in her life since she lost Kunal. The initiation ceremony begins (gosh, I LOOOOOOOOOVE the scene when she is exiting her house and looks up into Kunal's eyes and he can't bear to look at her--- so much emotion going on there.). She takes a momentary leave after the ceremony to ask for blessings at Kunal's house. She settles all her affairs with his mother (*whom I still want to sock over the head as well for being so judgmental!!!*), his father. She is also "introduced" to her father whom she doesn't acknowledge in their presence. Her final words are about her father (Kunal kind of starts to suspect something is off.) She bids them all goodbye... then and then tragic ending happens. The truth is revealed but too late (YEAH, KUNAL~ I wish you'd knock your head against the wall A LOT MORE HARDER~ LOL!!!)...

it sucks that the hmong dubbed version cut out Padamini's (Chandra's) classical dance at the temple it was one of the best parts of the movie...tis why I hardly watch hmong dubbed movies and go for the original...too bad mine got lost when I was around 10...sheez...lots of thanks for the upload anyway, cept for the voices that don't fit the character and the bad music overriding the orginal and the cut parts of the movie...its all good.
