What I'm saying is there is no alcohol odor in the liguid. I would think that even if there were trace amounts in the liquid I would be able to smell it. Apple cider is different here, nowadays its just the juice from crushed apples, which is kinda what this smelled like. I heated it in the tea kettle at very low temperature and the liquid that came out was not alcohol so I did something wrong. Probably didnt ferment long enough.

I'm not sure for how long it fermented but it should probably be standing until it stops bubbling (which is when all the yeast has died) for the best effect. And btw, what is cider when you think about it? Fermented apple juice :)

It doesnt smell right though, it smells more like cider. Do you think I let it ferment long enough. I really want to make the rice husk work. The graineries around here give the husks away by the truck load for farmers to put on there fields for fertilizer.

If that stuff under the ice didn't freeze after 24 hours in the freezer that should definitely have some ethanol in it, but if you only fermented it for a short while there might only be like a couple of percent. it's very hard to ferment and get over 20% ethanol.I used 25Litre buckets to ferment in since the more ethanol that is produced, the more of the yeast will actually die from poisoning :) I think I normally got to around 10% |
