Wow! That must be 100 years old. Accompanied by Alma, or maybe Alban Berg?

Speaking of which, there is a video of Mahler strolling in Vienna which I saw many years ago. I wish someone would post that on YT!

It would be sensational if they showed up! Regarding the film, so far, on YT we already have unknown material of Horowitz on a party, Friedman walking in Central Park etc. etc. so it is always possible that someone decides to share it with the rest of the world! (There is also an obstinate rumour that there is a "video" of Rachmaninoff playing the piano...)

The private recordings were made on a home grammophone machine. As far as I know, nobody knows whether or not any of these discs still survive - there is some chance they do though. What definitely does survive is a tape transfer of some of these discs made mid-century, and from where this recording comes... I think one should re-read that quote as "there WERE approximately 28 minutes..."

"According to Methuen-Campbell, Siloti made test pressings for a majorrecord company in the USA. These and a brief film of Siloti playing mayor may not survive. There are also some private recordings made in the1930s. According to Randy Herr, there are approximately 28 minutes ofSiloti home recordings."

Romantic (romanticised)? Surely. Ostentatiously so? I don't think so. Heartachingly beautiful? Absolutely. |
