Hunourous note on the acting: Maria in Bruno's arms at hte station has the exact same desperate expression as the pussycat in the arms of Pepe Le Pew in the WB cartoons.

"As You Desire Me" is possibly my favourite Garbo film as it is based on a 1930 play by Luigi Pirandello, which meshes perfectly with Garbo's mysterious personality. It is a complex - and decadent - story about love, truth, memory, and identity and how only one of these can compensate for the others when those qualities are lacking. Even with a happy ending tacked on and a 70 min running time, it preserves the meaning of the play and remains a superior work of art.
