GARY LUCAS: PART 5 LIVE IN ST. PETERSBURG; SKIF FESTIVAL, 4/25/04On April 25th 2004, Gary Lucas, "one of the best and most original guitarists in America" (Rolling Stone) performed solo at the 6th Annual Sergey Kuryokhin International Festival of the Arts in St. Petersburg, his fourth trip to Russia. Gary took the stage at 1am after an introduction by his friend noted avant-guitarist Henry Kaiser, and proceeded to play his heart out, as documented here by local fan Nick Kuznetsov. This set stands as one of Gary's finest solo guitar perfomances ever, with the 3 customary Lucas road guitars ('66 Fender Strat, '46 Gibson J-45, and '28 National steel) in full effect.Here Gary performs a furious rendition of his original composition "The Nightmare of History" and then dives into his original "Hugh's Graveyard Stomp" on his 1926 National Steel.
