Do you want your own private Second Life SIM completely free? You might be interested in Magrathean Technologies' D-GiG LiveSIM (based on OpenSim). No installation required. This standalone SIM will boot directly from CD-ROM on a separate x86 machine in your LAN (or within VMWare or VirtualBox, if you prefer).IMPORTANT: The LiveSIM is NOT connected to the official Second Life grid. It is your private SIM at home. Feel free to be "your own Linden". Or grief yourself. Whatever. Just run+fun! :)I'm using LiveSIM for testing all kinds of content (especially textures) before wasting another L$10 for uploading my stuff to the "real" Second Life. This clip demonstrates my first experiments with D-GiG. Play the high-quality version for better graphic detail. Enjoy!

Dang. I was hoping it would get you the sim in the real Second Life. :(But hell, what a shame. Also, nice video, you've prbably helped a ton of people who want to practice their land terrain skills. ;)

Woah, thanks! :)I am so going to try stuff on a little private server :D

Yo Dude ;)Yes, you can run your own private Second Life server at home. Even go public with it. And it's completely legal. Maybe you've heard of the OpenSim project already, the public open source version of the Second Life server software. Magrathean's D-GiG is based on OpenSim.Other projects like OpenLife are using the same server software, btw.The song is "life is sweet", a Daft Punk remix of Chemical Brothers (see end credits).

True, true. Always much to do in SL. :))In case you find time to test it: have fun!D-GiG is not perfect (still alpha mode, I believe). So it crashes as much as the real SL. But it's still worth a try.

DUDE!Tell me the name of that song! Also, is this like having a private server? Is it legally?

How exciting! I can't wait to try this. Now if I can just get my SL TO DO list reduced fare enough to try. Grin.
