Marie Lloyd Junior (1888 - 1967) Singing a song first recorded and made famous by her mother back in 1904.Whilst Marie Lloyd was performing this in 1922, the last song in her act "I'm One of the Ruins That Cromwell Knocked About a Bit", she staggered about and collapsed on the stage. The audience laughed delightedly when she fell, thinking it was all part of the act. However, she was desperately ill, and died three days later on 7 October 1922.Marie Lloyd Junior was the only child of the famous Marie Lloyd, generally acknowledged to have been the greatest of all the female music hall performers. Marie Jr. made her début in South Africa in 1896 with an impersonation of her mother with whom she was touring. After Marie Lloyd's death in 1922, she appeared on the halls singing Marie Senior's songs. During the 60's she toured with Don Ross's long running "Thanks For The Memory " show. Sadly her death, on Boxing day 1967, surprisingly went unreported in the national press, and although popular she never attained the top billing that her mother achieved.This is a 1957 audio recording, and the picture is that of Marie Lloyd, as sadly I do not have a picture of Marie junior.
