I recently got a free, open source, emulator called VirtualBox. Using Virtual Box, I was able to get my Linux distros up and running again. Currently I'm running OpenSUSE, Ubuntu, PCLinux, and Mint. I love Linux, and my experience overall has been very positive. Linux is fantastic, but you have to be willing to learn. You also have to keep an open mind. Try different distros. I have four running for the very reason of keeping an open mind.

Its because majority of computer users are not very intelligent. People don't want to think anymore. So they use windows, that way all they have to do is click on pretty little pictures.

Ubuntu has a bigger community.(Forums, support, ...)I use openSUSE 11, because you can easier switch window manager (gnome, kde 3, kde 4, icewm, ...) like in ubuntu. You should install Debian in your Virtual Box. It is also a nice distro.New Debian version "Lenny" is coming out soon.So maybe you sould try the beta version.
