This is the correct way to test capacitors, testing them for leakage by applying the rated viltage first.Than testing them for capacity using a capacitor bridge.

mladen5376, You DO NOT test them in circuit, they are tested out of circuit.Testing in circuit can be done with an "in-circuit" capacitor checker, but that will not tell you if it is leaky, it has to be out of the circuit in order to test for leakage.Plus you do not want to put the voltage on it while it is in circuit, damage can be done to the circuit.Always remove one side of the cap before you test it.Thanks for stopping by.Bill

I have learned a lot by testing (old) caps for leakage, as you suggest. Enjoyed seeing your tester. I use a Sencore LC102, good for 1KV, with uA leakage readout. ESR, too (but only out of circuit). Thanks so much.
