A video journal I am starting to have a record of my cichlids growing up. This is the first installment. The audio in this clip is by "Tides of Man" please visit their site at http://www.myspace.com/tidesof... This is a 60g tank with 2 H.O.T Magnums, Fluval 3+, Penquin 350 Biowheel and a Aquaclear 110 powerhead for circulation. I don't use a substrate because I like to keep a clean tank and there is enough bio filtration in my filters. My fish are:FIN DIESEL - JEWEL CICHLID (Hemichromis bimaculatus)MR. true, and i prefer to have substrate in my tanks, but beneficial bacteria can still grow without it.

Yeah but it helps the fish. It creates bacteria colonies and it looks more natural.

most of those fish are big time diggers, they just make big mounds with the substrate. So a lot of times the tank can actually look better without it, and its easier to keep clean.

Nice tank and nice looking fish but you need to get gravel.

He is the biggest Jewel Ive ever seen so until the others grow out he is the big dog of the tank. He is actually really mellow until the others start fighting and he breaks em up and keeps the peace.
